Douglas is a versatile actor, working in a variety of mediums including film and television, theatre, musical theatre, cabaret, as well as the concert platform and as a voiceover artist. Australian by birth, he is also a British citizen, with bases in both Sydney and London. A member of the original Australian cast of the Broadway hit musical Come From Away, he recently concluded his time with the production after 760 performances. He can also be seen in the UK medical thriller Malpractice, currently streaming on iTV.
Doug is in high demand as an acting coach and has taught at some of the most prestigious institutions in Australia and the UK including the National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA), Mountview Academy and Associated Studios London.
A singer, musician and creative, he began studying classical piano from the age of 5 and began singing with local community groups from the age of 10. He attended secondary school at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts and upon graduating, successfully auditioned for the acting course at the prestigious Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Acting) in 2003.
For most of 2004 he toured with Bell Shakespeare Company in the Actors at Work program, after which he appeared in the popular medical drama All Saints on Channel 7. In the years that followed he amassed an impressive list of theatre and television credits in Australia before being awarded the Mike Walsh Fellowship in 2013 which he used to travel to the UK to pursue professional development opportunities. Returning briefly to Australia in 2014 to appear in the Sydney Theatre Company's celebrated Wharf Revue he relocated to London in 2015 where he worked in musical theatre, stage and television over the next several years, appearing in Titanic (Charing Cross Theatre), The Silent (Lightning Oak Productions) and in development with Alain Boublil in Manhattan Parisienne. In 2019 he was invited to join the original Australian company of Come From Away and has since divided his time between London and Sydney.
